Twenty-Five years ago,
I bought 35,000 45's from a distributor who had gone
out of business years before. There was beautiful mint stock of titles very
seldom seen anymore. I was fortunate to find a cheap store front in the
Lower-Haight intending to open the store just to get the records out of
the garage! Everything was $2.00, what did I know about running a record
shop? One thing led to another, a sign was made, racks were acquired and
a business was born. A few years later I added LP's to the collection to
fill things out. Business was slow in the beginning with overseas collectors
knowing more about the shop than people down the street. This obviously
was not enough to deter the shop's progress and twenty years later Rooky
Ricardo's is not just a store but a San Francisco institution.
